Anthony Reddick Has a Huge Game for the CFL BC Lions

AnthonyReddickBCLionsU

Blitzes, pressure and a secondary that wouldn't give in.

It was too much for Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray on Sunday as the B.C. Lions beat the Eskimos 40-23 in the CFL West final.

Ray was sacked at key times by nose tackle Khalif Mitchell and defensive back Anthony Reddick and also had to hurry throws or dump the ball out of bounds.

Edmonton had a first down on the B.C. 11-yard line when Reddick sacked Ray and forced a fumble that Solomon Elimimian recovered on the B.C. 29-yard line.

That possession ended in a 13-yard TD for the Lions.

Photos of former 1st Round proCane NFL Draft Picks

Alex Smith, Ronnie Brown, Antrel Rolle and Cedric Benson 2005
The four first-round picks have had mixed results in their careers. Smith, the No. 1 pick, has been a part-time starter for the 49ers. Brown has battled injuries in his career but made the 2008 Pro Bowl. Rolle has been the most successful of the four, making two Pro Bowls in his career. Benson was a bust for Chicago but has restarted his career in Cincinnati, rushing for more than 1,000 yards in each of the past two seasons

Vinny Testaverde 1987
The Heisman Trophy winner talks on the phone after being selected by the Buccaneers with the No. 1 pick in the draft. He struggled with Tampa Bay, throwing 25 more interceptions than touchdowns and compiling a 24-48 record. But he went on to have a productive 21-year career in the league and earned two Pro Bowl selections.

Chris Berman 1987
The long-time ESPN NFL analyst and host works the draft board during the telecast. On the 1987 you can see eventual first pick proCane Vinny Testaverde and eventual 3rd pick Alonzo Highsmith.

William Bidwell and Ottis Anderson 1979
The Cardinals' first-round pick holds up his jersey alongside owner William Bidwell. The running back won Rookie of Year in 1979 and made the Pro Bowl in his first two seasons. He later added the 1991 Super Bowl MVP award for his performance in the Giants' win over the Bills.

Photo Shoot: Andre Johnson Now Sponsored by the Jordan Brand

The Texans might be a perennially mediocre team but Johnson is a spectacular talent and currently holds the league’s career record for receiving yards per game, a superstar status that’s cemented by his allegiance with Jordan Brand.  JB’s latest football star joins the colorful Terrell Owens among others under the Jumpman umbrella and we can’t wait to see all the different Air Jordan cleats he’ll break out, if the two sides ever come to an agreement.  Click through to see Johnson rocking the Air Jordan Alpha Trunner along with some new JB receiver gloves and stick with Sneaker News for more on Jordan Brand’s NFL contingent.

Willis McGahee goes nude to support PETA

Who knew Willis McGahee loved animals? Who knew he loved them enough to bare it all?

As part of a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign, McGahee posed for photos nude, flashing his tattoos holidng a football made from synthetic materials (i.e., not pigskin). The campaign is called "Ink, Not Mink."

In a video posted on PETA's website, McGahee says "I don't think people really understand where [fur] comes from," said McGahee. "You don't want to electrocute an animal for its fur ... that's not right."

Look fast: Hester's Mohawk won't last long

Devin Hester soon will no longer have hair flowing from the back of his helmet.

The Bears wide receiver sported a new look Sunday at Soldier Field for the season opener against the Detroit Lions. "Da Hess," as he calls it, is a braided Mohawk with some intricate designs. "Da Hess" is carved into the left side of his head.

The haircut took 90 minutes at Gurnee Mills mall for a couple professionals Hester regularly has handle his hair.

"It was my idea," Hester said. "I wanted to try something different before I cut it off. I am going to get rid of everything here pretty soon."

Hester has grown out his hair since his rookie season in 2006. Maybe if he has a big game Sunday at Dallas he'll keep the dreads a little longer before he goes back for what will surely be a shorter stay in the barber's chair.

"I'm gonna get it taken off here," he said.

Photo of the Week - Dedrick Epps Flashes "The U" at Chargers Camp

proCanes.com fan Jeff Muto attended last Friday’s San Diego Chargers’ Training Camp and was kind enough to send us this photo of Dedrick Epps. Epps was drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Chargers in the 7th Round. After practice, Dedrick stayed out an extra 15 minutes with a couple of other guys to get some extra work, so it was easier for Jeff to catch him on his way back to the locker room.  Jeff didn't get to speak with Dedrick but when he yelled out to him to stop and asked him to throw the U, he kindly obliged.

We’d like to give a big thanks to Jeff for sending us the photo and if any other proCanes.com fans are at NFL Training Camps and snap any photos of proCanes at their respective practices, email us the photo and we’ll be sure to post it.

The Hurricane Cereal Box

Rocky McIntosh dropped by my [Redskins.com] desk today wearing a green and orange 305 shirt, claiming to be on a cereal box. When I expressed my skepticism, he left and returned an hour later with an actual box of the Miami Hurricanes "Pipeline To The Pros" cereal.

It took a few minutes to find all the Redskins on the box -- a few minutes during which McIntosh noted that, with the signing of Antrel Rolle, the Giants now have more active Miami players than the Redskins -- but eventually they all turned up. (The most elusive was Clinton Portis, wearing a difficult-to-see #28 and with his face obscured by a visor. "Guess he didn't donate enough last year," McIntosh mused, moments before we finally noticed Portis disappearing into a bowl of cereal and berries.)

When I wrote about the Redskins Breakfast Blitz cereal last September, I noted that

Because it would probably be unwise to associate an NFL team with a cereal with zero nutritional content, this tastes much closer to Honey Nut Cheerios than anything else.

Well, The U doesn't play by those rules: this is straight-up generic Frosted Flakes, twelve grams of sugar and all. For all that, though, McIntosh seems pretty enthused by it, although he was quick to shoot down my suggestion that this was the highest honor of his career.

"That would be actually getting to the pros," he said. Then he promised to conduct a taste test tomorrow between Pipeline To The Pros, Breakfast Blitz, and "some General Mills thing". Which is something to look forward to, I guess, if there's still no free agency news.
